Holiday Cottages at Savusavu

The 5th edition of Moon Handbooks Fiji mentioned the Bula Bookshop at the Copra Shed Marina in Savusavu. By the time I returned to Fiji to research the 6th edition, the bookshop had disappeared. I simply removed the listing from my book, and didn't think much more about it.

Last week I got an email from the bookstore's former owner announcing that he was now running a two-unit accommodation facility on the hillside between Savusavu and the Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort. From the website, Hans Place looks like a good choice for anyone interested in spending a week or more hanging out in the area.

Hans Place, SavusavuBoth of Hans' cottages have a kitchenette and fridge, which is necessary because it's too far to commute into town for meals. The garden setting looks nice, and the sunset views from the cottage decks must be superb. And at $400-500 Fijian double a week, Hans' Place is not overpriced, though the units are too small for families. Almost the norm on Rarotonga, this type of self-catering accommodation can be hard to find in Fiji. Little Dolphin and Bibi's Hideaway on nearby Taveuni are comparable.
