New Resort at Gizo, Solomon Islands

In June 2005, the upscale Sanbis Resort opened at the west end of Mbabanga Island opposite Epangga Island near Gizo in the Solomon Islands. Most Sanbis Resort clients are Australian scuba divers who utilize the services of Solomon Watersport Ltd, a partner company of the resort owners, Solomon Connect Ltd.

Sanbis has been constructed to the highest environmental standards, with five thatched bungalows and a restaurant/bar area tucked into the surrounding vegetation. The resort uses solar electricity (no noisy generator), and phones, faxes, and mobiles are banned from the island.

The exclusivity comes at a price, starting at US$250/350 single/double including bungalow accommodations, two dives, and transfers, or US$140/160 double/twin for accommodations only. Meals are extra, costing US$7.50 to US$30 a plate. Ten percent government tax is added.
