Port Vila Restaurant Updates

The closing of the Rossi Restaurant discussed elsewhere on this blog isn't the only recent change on the Vanuatu dining scene. The Harborside Restaurant, across the street from the Grand Casino Hotel, is now called Shooters, and you'll probably find affable Scottish larrikin John Patterson behind the bar. John used to run Smuggler's Nite Club and Sports Bar, and before that, The Galley Bar and Bistro.

In October, the thatched premises of the Waterfront Bar and Grill burned to the ground. Long a favorite of cruising yachties, the Waterfront served the best steaks in Vanuatu (local organic beef) and was famous for its coconut pie. Happily, the Waterfront's owners, Don and Donna Macquoid, are rebuilding, so don't despair. Meanwhile, you can catch Don and Donna at their other location, The Saloon, on the road to Mele just before the Port Vila Golf and Country Club.
