Matava'a Iti Art Festival on Tahuata

The Matava'a o te Henua Enata or Marquesas Islands Festival is one of the most important cultural events in the South Pacific. The next Matava'a Festival with international participation will be on Ua Pou in the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia in 2007.

From March 6-8, 2006, a Matava'a Iti Festival will be held on Tahuata Island in the Marquesas. This "mini" festival intended mostly for the local population will also feature the traditional dancing, drumming, singing, sports, and handicraft displays for which Matava'a is famous, though on a smaller scale. The February 25 departure of the cruise ship Aranui 3 from Tahiti is scheduled to coincide with the festival.
