2006 Tahiti Heiva Program

The lineup for this year's Heiva i Tahiti festival in Papeete has been announced on ifenua.com. Famous song and dance troupes like Temarama and Tamarii Teahupoo will compete at Place To'ata from 7 to 10:30 pm on July 6, 7, 8, 15, and 16, with a gala evening on July 21.

The outrigger canoe races or Heiva Va'a i Tahiti along the Papeete waterfront will begin at 8 am on June 30 and July 1, 6, 7, and 8. On July 13, 14, 15, and 19 there will be a sailing canoe regattas, stone lifting competitions, javelin throwing, and banana bearer races at the Paofai Cultural Village, west of Place To'ata.

The official ceremony to open the Cultural Village will begin at 5:30 pm on July 1, right after the Heiva Parade. The inauguaration of the Heiva itself will be held on Boulevard Pomare that evening. Mahana Park at Paea on the west side of Tahiti will host fire dancing, beginning at 6 pm on July 5. The culmination of the festival will be the cultural evening on Place To'ata on July 28. The South Pacific's most spectacular annual festival is about to begin!
