Beachcomber Island Fiji
Beachcomber Island in Fiji's Mamanuca Group has been catering to young budget travelers since the 1960s. For years it was the only all inclusive island resort offering dorm beds and buffet meals at a reasonable price, earning a reputation as a "party island".
These days Beachcomber has many competitors for the youth travel trade, including neighbouring Bounty Island Resort and South Sea Island. On Viti Levu, there's The Beachouse and the new Mango Bay Resort.
Beachcomber itself has changed and the average age of its guests has become a little older. In addition to the 84-bed dormitory tailor-made for singles, there are now 14 lodge rooms and 22 bungalows for couples and families who can afford to spend a bit more. Children under 16 get half price on daytrips. The highspeed catamaran Drodrolagi pictured here leaves Nadi for Beachcomber Island daily at 9 am.
