Nadi Fiji Update

Bounty Restaurant, NadiI've just been in Fiji collecting information for the 8th edition of Moon Handbooks Fiji. The biggest change since the 7th edition (September 2004) has been a sharp rise in accommodation prices. Room rates in Fiji are at least 25 percent up with a three percent bed tax heaped on top of the 12.5 value added tax. The good news is that bus and beer prices have remained relatively stable.

Over the next few weeks I'll post details of new developments around Fiji. For example, the popular Bounty Restaurant in Martintar, Nadi, is under new management with an expanded terrace to the right of the entrance. The Bounty's new owner is a local ANZ Bank manager who is building a nightclub in the other half of the building. He has also purchased Mountainview Apartments above the restaurant and plans to renovate and air-condition the place.

Elsewhere around Nadi, Aqua Blue Dive has bought out Inner Space Adventures at Wailoaloa Beach and is now based across the street from the new Smugglers Cove Beach Resort (no longer at Aquarius Fiji). Some of Nadi's seedier hotels, including the Coconut Inn and Saf's Apartment have closed, and Sunny Travelers Inn now only rents rooms by the hour. Bula Lodge and Mana Rose Apartment have also gone. On the other hand, Denarau Island is booming with the Radisson Resort Fiji about half finished. Stay tuned.
