South Pacific Music Festival

South Pacific Music FestivalThe 3rd annual Savusavu South Pacific Music Festival will be held in Savusavu, Fiji, from November 22 to November 25, 2006. The main festival venues will be the Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort, the Koro Sun Resort, and the Tui Tai or a Blue Lagoon cruise vessel. The festival pass is priced at $250 Fijian, but this only covers admission to the evening performances. Transportation to the venues, sightseeing during the day, meals, and accommodations will cost extra.

Clearly, this festival has been designed to attract a well heeled audience. For instance, the Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort is marketing a festival "special" at $5,224 Fijian double for eight nights room and board. Massage treatments and a few excursions and activities are thrown in, but airfare to Savusavu, the 15.5 percent government tax, and the festival pass are not.

For budget-minded travelers (and local residents!), there will be a free event in downtown Savusavu on the afternoon of the last day with string band recitals, a meke, and handicraft displays on the program. Air Pacific is flying in top acts from around the Pacific for the Savusavu South Pacific Musical Festival. Coming right on the heels of the Melanesian Arts and Cultural Festival in Suva (from October 2nd to October 11th), this is an exciting time to be in Fiji if you're a culture vulture.
