Takalana Bay Beach Resort, Fiji

Takalana Bay Beach ResortThe Takalana Bay Beach Resort on Viti Levu's Tailevu Coast, 40 kilometers northwest of Korovou, makes an excellent base for exploring this little known corner of Fiji. The estate's 85 acres include pine forests, native scrublands, manicured flower gardens, and a private beach. Takalana Bay's modern two-bedroom homestead stands majestically on a hilltop overlooking the Lomaiviti chain of islands in the Koro Sea.

Takalana Bay guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen and fridge, ensuite bathrooms, hot water, and bubble bath. Every room in the house has a panoramic mountain or sea view. Activities include snorkeling, visiting a waterfall, dolphin watching, kayaking, village visits, and hiking to the summit of nearby Mount Tova. Takalana Bay Beach Resort is priced at $280 Fijian double per room. It's your chance to escape the touristic masses and discover the "real Fiji."

Takalana Bay Beach Resort doesn't have a website, but you can email the manager Jay Bau at takalanaretreat AT yahoo.com or call tel. 991-6338 in Fiji. Getting there is fairly easy as there are buses to Nataleira village (via Natovi) every weekday afternoon from Suva. The driver will drop you right at the resort gate, upon request. If you've rented a car, it's possible to continue north of this road which eventually links up with Kings Road again near Barotu. Bus travelers will have to return to Korovou to continue their trip around Viti Levu. On our map of Fiji it's just next to the "O" of Ovalau.
