Tahiti to Rarotonga Flight

On April 3, 2007, Air Rarotonga and Air Tahiti launched a joint service between Papeete, French Polynesia, and Rarotonga, Cook Islands. An Air Tahiti 60-seater ATR72 aircraft will operate on Tuesday and Saturday, taking about two hours and 45 minutes each way.

The new service replaces a longstanding Air New Zealand “Coral Route” connection which ended late last month. It used to be possible to fly Los Angeles-Papeete-Rarotonga-Fiji-Los Angeles on a single, inexpensive Air New Zealand ticket. Air New Zealand now flies Rarotonga-Los Angeles nonstop, which is fine for those who only want to get to Rarotonga but bad news for island hoppers who will have to pay an extra NZ$349 each way to fly between Tahiti and Rarotonga.
