Virgin Blue Fuel Surcharge

On February 1, 2008, the Australian carriers Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue will hike the fuel surcharges on their flights between Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific islands. Both airlines are part of the Virgin empire owned by flamboyant British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson. Now the skyrocketing price of aviation fuel is taking an extra little bite out of the no-frills Branson passengers who already pay extra for airborne meals, alcoholic beverages, and advance seat reservations. The price is increasing from $35 per person per sector to $45 per person per sector.
