Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards

In 1991 the Fiji Times sponsored the first Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards, and since 1997 the Fiji Islands Visitors Bureau has carried on the tradition of recognizing outstanding companies in their fields. This year were 1,607 nominees in 23 categories, and some familiar names are among the 2007 winners announced at a gala function at the Sofitel Fiji Resort on Denarau Island, Nadi, on February 8, 2008.

In the category of scuba diving, the winner was Subsurface Fiji which organizes diving at many Mamanuca resorts. Myola Plantation Resort between Signatoka and Nadi was selected in the unique accommodations category. The best budget accommodations of the year were judged to be the Mango Bay Resort on the Coral Coast and the Lawaki Beach Resort on Beqa Island. The top tourist attraction award went to Kula Eco Park at Korotogo just east of Sigatoka. For transportation, South Sea Cruises Ltd., operators of island shuttles in the Mamanuca and Yasawa groups, got the award. The Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort was recognized for its environmental tourism. Congratulations all.
