IPS Publications now USP Press
For 32 years the Institute of Pacific Studies at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji, has been a leading publisher of books about the Pacific islands written by the islanders themselves. Their catalog lists hundreds of titles in a wide range of fields, some available on Google Books. On September 17, 2008, three new books were launched: A Personal Perspective: The Speeches of Joni Madraiwiwi, Red Wave: Space, Process, and Creativity at the Oceania Centre for Arts and Culture, and Legends, Traditions & Tales of Nauru. Although all of the IPS titles are valuable as research materials, many are rather dry academic publications of interest only to specialists. To mark the 40th anniversary of the university, IPS Publications is being closed down and superceded by the USP Press. IPS Publication's backlist will continue to be marketed and distributed by the University Book Center. I wish the UPS Press every success.
