Shipping Shuns Northern Vanuatu
It's reported that the Torres and Banks islands of northern Vanuatu have been without shipping services since 2007. The shops are empty and copra warehouses full. Educational and medical supplies are running out and local schools may have to close. Residents who cannot afford high interisland airfares are unable to travel. Getting around Vanuatu by boat always was difficult and things seem to be getting worse. South Pacific travelers interested in some seabourne island hopping should head for Fiji, French Polynesia, Tonga, or the Solomon Islands instead.
