Portofino For Sale

Portofino Restaurant

The well established Portofino Restaurant in Avarua on Rarotonga, Cook Islands, is for sale and the Canadian expat owners Bruce and Nancy are advertising Portofino as “your turn to live in Paradise”. The Cook Islands government is now asking potential investors to bring in NZ$1,000,000 for a new project and several sectors are off limits (including the black pearl industry and budget accommodation). The lophole is that you can get a residency permit by purchasing an existing business and no million dollar minimum investment rule applies. Portofino is profitable and all equipment and inventories are included in the deal. On page 350 of the 8th edition of >Moon Handbooks South Pacific, I review the restaurant thus:

The Portofino Restaurant (closed Sunday), on the east side of town, specializes in Italian dishes such as pizza, pasta, steaks, and seafood. It gets good reviews from readers (“good food, lots of it, and well prepared”) and can be crowded, so try to reserve. Their takeaway pizzas are large.
