Tahitian Weddings

Moon TahitiA 30-day residency requirement has long prevented Tahiti from cashing in on the lucrative wedding niche market. Instead, the territory has been promoted as a honeymoon destination, especially the island of Bora Bora where newly-wed couples from Chicago are a dime a dozen. Non-binding resort marriages and reaffirmation of vows packages could be arranged, but to be legally married, romantic tourists have had to go to the Cook Islands, Fiji, or Vanuatu.

With tourism in the doldrums in French Polynesia, the French National Assembly is debating a new law called Lodeom (loi de developpement economique des outremers) which will allow couples to marry after a much shorter waiting period. I don’t have the exact details as yet, but if implemented, Lodeom will boost the bottom lines of the flash resorts on Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and Rangiroa.

Bora Bora says:

Thanks for sharing this post. Bora Bora is a beautiful island to visit in south pacific. Vaitape is a nice village situated on Bora Bora. You will find handmade pearl and shell jewels in the Vaitape market. Twin towering jet black rock volcanic peaks of Pahia and Otemanu are the best attraction. Take a jeep service to visit around the island. Experience the richness of the exotic underwater of the blue lagoon. Enjoy the vast lagoon via jet skis or water skis.
