ALL EDITIONS OF FIJI

The 1st edition of Finding Fiji was a compact 123 pages, based on the Fiji Islands chapter from South Pacific Handbook. Competitors still hadn't arrived on the scene and this slim volume soon became the traveler's essential companion. Published in Chico, California, in 1985.

The 2nd edition grew to 198 pages as upmarket hotels and resorts were added to the coverage. To fit better into Moon Publications' line, the name was changed to Fiji Islands Handbook. Publication was delayed a couple of years due to the 1987 military coup in Fiji. Published in Chico, California, in 1990.

The 3rd edition was written in tandem with the 5th edition of South Pacific Handbook. Although the size grew slightly to 213 pages, this was primarily an update of the 2nd edition. Published in Chico, California, in 1993.

The 4th edition piggy backed on the 6th edition of South Pacific Handbook. More detailed history, geography and culture sections increased the length to 263 pages. Published in Chico, California, in 1996.

The 5th edition used Fijian rather than phonetic spelling and provided email addresses for the first time. All of the maps were redrawn on a computer and printed in two colors. Color photos were removed to avoid a major price increase. The guide grew to 321 pages. Published in Chico, California, in 1999.

The 6th edition appeared a year early to report on the changes in Fiji after the civil coup of May, 2000. The internet information was thoroughly updated and four new maps were added. This was the first travel guide to Fiji to report on the new adventure travel resorts in the Yasawa Islands. Published in Emeryville, California, in 2001.

The 7th edition was completely revised with all telephone numbers updated to the seven-digit system. The internet and email addresses are embedded in the listings for ease of reference. With 356 pages, it remained the most reliable, up-to-date travel guide to Fiji. Published in Emeryville, California, in 2004.

The current 8th edition was redesigned to fit Avalon Travel Publishing's new house style. The Background and Essentials chapters were moved to the back of the book and a Discover Fiji blue section was added in front. The length grew to 385 pages. Published in Emeryville, California, in 2007.
